An Xbox Live user has had his “RichardGaywood” gamertag banned for violating XBL policies. The thing is, Richard Gaywood is his name.
According to Kotaku, the ban comes just one week after Microsoft banned the tag "thegayergamer" following complaints from other XBL users.
Microsoft Xbox Live staffer Stephen Toulouse explains on his personal website that the XBL terms of use clearly disallow content of a sexual nature:
"[A member may not] create a Gamertag or use text in other profile fields that may offend other members. This includes comments that look, sound like, stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate any of the following: profane words/phrases, sexually explicit language, sexual innuendo, hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, or religious slurs), illegal drugs/controlled substances, or illegal activities."
Gamertags such as “"TheStraighterGamer" or "TheHeterosexualgamer" would also have been banned had they been in use, Toulouse adds, but seriously, Gaywood is the guy’s name. Sort it out Microsoft - what you need to do is allocate more staff to weeding out the genuinely offensive racists and bigots that populate XBL too frequently.

Makes me wonder why "Golden Gaytime" icecreams are still on the market and how a "Straight Shooter" award can be given.
