Laurent Detoc, North American president of Ubisoft is quoted as saying that "Ubisoft is committed to growing internally and is not necessarily going to follow in the footsteps of its bigger rivals of Electronic Arts and Activision", which both announced plans to grow through acquisitions and mergers. Activision is planning on merging with Vivendi Games while EA is pursuing an unsolicited bid of Take-Two Interactive Software.
"I don't think we will focus on acquisitions unless it makes sense for us," Detoc said. "We're not a reactive company, we're builders."
Detoc said the company will continue to be at the forefront of the casual gaming boom, which he said has been part of Ubisoft's recent success. He said casual games contributed 25 percent of Ubisoft's sales.
Does this mean that they are happy to chase the 25% of their own marketshare with titles like
Tigerz
Dolphin Island
Dogz 2
The list goes on... and on...
I mean how many virtual pests... Uh I mean pets, can you own?
Let's hope that they release a Rabbid pets version soon.... Hell, I'd buy that.
