Metal Slug at GDC

Popular franchise Metal Slug turned up the GDC 2008 in the form of a title for the runaway success that is the Nintendo DS. This would make it Metal Slug 7 and the first to make an appearance on the Nintendo DS. On top of all that, it's also a DS exclusive so you won't see it on anything else including the Xbox 360 Live Arcade. In true Metal Slug style, it retains the side on scrolling adventure that has won it a legion of fans around the world. The game rules are simple: blast anything that moves with whatever you can get your hands no matter how outrageous the weapons are. You'll have a full compliment of 6 soldiers to choose from and these include elite women fighters as well. You just run amok from left to right and use the L button hurl your trusty and useful grenades. One question that wasn't answered though was how the touch screen is going to be incorporated into the gameplay. This, unfortunately, wasn't demonstrated at the exhibition but speculation is rife that it will no doubt contain a map of the level you're playing. The game still sufferes the occassional bout of slowdown but honestly there's so much action going on, it's remarkable that there isn't bucketloads more of it. But seriously, which Metal Slug game hasn't shown a drop in framerate here and there.

Screenshots will be posted soon.
