Exciting news for Wii developers with the news that GarageGames, a provider for independent games along with Pronto Games have confirmed a bucketload of updates for their Torque Game Builder used in the development of Wii games. One of the tidbits that was revealed was support for 2D drag and drop  functionality.

This was first announced at the Nintendo Developer Conference along with support for compressed textures, interior support, extensible Wii remote support, hardward blending for terrain textures, Wii optimised skinned mesh rendering and a comprehensive WYSIWYG tool chain for designers, scripting language support, a Lot Check compliance component also Wii graphics and audio abstraction layers.

VP of Business Development for GarageGames, Brett Sayler, had the following to say about the announcement, "We're thrilled to have had one of the first affordable solutions out there for Wii game development and with the huge success of the Wii platform, developer interest Torque for Wii has been off the charts,Torque for Wii continues to improve and mature and with this technology in the hands of some very talented studios, we're going to see a lot more more great games like Pronto's Destiny of Zorro come to the Wii."
